DONATION OF EQUIPMENT TO THE HAITIAN GOVERNMENT
(Haiti Libre) -

This afternoon the Directorate of Civil Protection of Haiti (DPC) will receive a donation of the U.S. Government, during a ceremony at the premises of the DPC in Port-au-Prince. Boats, vehicles and 11,000 hand-crank radios will be given to Haitian authorities.

This equipment donation builds on U.S. government efforts to strengthen the Haitian government's ability to prepare for and respond to major natural events. Haitian Prime Ministere Garry Conille, Minister of Interior Thierry Mayard-Paul and Lieutenant General Douglas M. Fraser, Commander of U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) will attend the ceremony.

SOUTHCOM is supporting the construction of a network of emergency operations centers, warehouses, and fire stations throughout Haiti to help make the country safer.
