ARTICLE - HNP TO ADD 2,000 OFFICERS

HAITIAN NATIONAL POLICE TO ADD 2,000 OFFICERS TO ITS RANKS
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) – The Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), Mario Andresol, announced January 1, on the occasion of Haiti’s Independence Day celebrations in Gonaives (Northern Haiti), an increase in the number of police officers for 2012. It will increase from 10,000 to 12,000, he says.

"From 10,000 now, the National Police will soon have in its ranks 12,000 officers," said Mario Andresol while participating in Haiti’s Independence Day celebrations in Gonaives on Sunday 1st January, reported Radio Metropole.

Mr. Andrésol noted the construction of five police stations in the country for 2012 which is also one of the priorities of the National Police for this year.

The head of the PNH also called for an increased budget for the National Police. Last December, police had complained about their working conditions. The Chief of Police reported hearing their complaints and promised to work to improve their situation.
