ARTICLE - CSPJ PROCESS ADVANCES

THE PROCESS OF SETTING UP OF CSPJ ADVANCES

On the sidelines of the commemorative activities of January 12, 2010, Michel Brunache, the new Minister of Justice and Public Security declared that the process of setting up the Supreme Council of the Judicial Powers (CSPJ) advances "...the process initiated since 2005 advances. There is a law that was approved in late 2007, .... there is a certification process for some members of the CSPJ which is almost complete, and we have already allocated the budget of CSPJ for the budget year of 2011-2012..., so it's a process that is progressing well [...]"

The Minister also mentioned the situation of justice in Haiti, and the many problems that must be addressed before there is a true rule of law in our country "...there are deficiencies that everyone can admit to. We know that the system is sick. There is especially a problem of human resources,... there are not enough judges,.... there are infrastructure problems,.... there are also administrative problems, ie that decisions are slow.; there are administrative problems with the penitentiary centers. There are also cases of arbitrary arrests that are made​, whether by the police, by the Justices of the Peace, or even by the Government Commissioner... We must address all these things to have a rule of law in the country..."
