U.S. COAST GUARD RETURNS 125 HAITIANS TO HOMELAND
(Miami Herald) - AP

MIAMI - The U.S. Coast Guard says it has returned 125 Haitian migrants to their Caribbean homeland.

Coast Guard officials say the overloaded sail freighter was spotted Tuesday in the waters north of Cape Du Mole, Haiti.

The Haitians were taken aboard a Coast Guard cutter, where they received food, water and basic medical care before they were returned Thursday to Cap-Haitien, Haiti.

The Coast Guard has picked up more than 400 Haitians at sea since Oct. 1, the beginning of the 2012 fiscal year. In the 2011 fiscal year, more than 1,100 Haitians were picked up at sea and returned to Haiti.

Last month, 38 Haitian migrants died in a shipwreck off the coast of Cuba. Nearly 90 survivors were returned to Haiti.
