AFRICA OCCUPIES AN IMPORTANT PLACE IN HAITIAN DIPLOMACY
(Haiti Libre) -

As part of the strengthening of the presence of Haiti on the international scene, the Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille stressed yesterday in his speech before the National Assembly, the growing importance of Africa in Haitian diplomacy.

"...the African continent occupies a place increasingly important in the diplomatic action of the Haitian government. In fact, the government intends to establish privileged relations with the African continent. To this end, a process for the participation of Haiti in the African Union was engaged with the President of the regional institution, for the grant to Haiti, of a status of associate member, and of the accreditation of a diplomatic mission with that organization.

In this perceptive, a Haitian delegation will attend the 18th ordinary session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government [African] to be held from January 23 to 30, 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia under the theme 'Promote intra-African trade'."

Note that in the last two months, Haiti has been present at the 36th General Conference of UNESCO, during which the Republic of Haiti was elected as a member of the International Coordinating Committee of the Programme on Man and the Biosphere, at the 21st Ibero-American Summit, held on October 28-29, 2011 in AsunciĆ³n (Paraguay). During the summit, the status of associated country was granted to Haiti; at the Conference of the Latin American and Caribbean (CELAC) held in Caracas on December 2-3, 2011 and and the 4th Cuba-CARICOM Summit, in Trinidad and Tobago on December 4, 2011.

In the same idea and to strengthen the presence of Haiti on the international scene, the government plans to submit nominations of Haitian personalities and diplomats, to important positions in international organizations.
