(Dominican Today) -

Dajabón, Dominican Republic.- Dominican Republic authorities today detained eight people, charged with retaining nine Haitian children in a hotel and a house in Dajabón province, next to the border with Haiti.

Quoting a Border Security (Cesfront) source, the agency Efe said the minors, some of them as young as four months, were rescued from four women and four men all Haitian nationals, who were allegedly going to use them in forced labor.

The Efe source said the children were apparently headed to the city of Santiago.

North Region Immigration Agency director Juan Isidro Perez told Efe that the authorities are taking drastic actions against traffickers of Haitians into Dominican Republic.
