FORMER PRESIDENT DUVALIER PLACED UNDER HOUSE ARREST, HIS LAWYER DISPUTES
(HaitiLibre) -
Former President Jean-Claude Duvalier, admitted Wednesday to Hopital Canape Vert in Port-au-Prince, for health problems, has been placed under house arrest Thursday by the Haitian justice system, 24 hours after his admission to hospital; "With restrictions on his movements and specific times to receive relatives and friends" has indicated Carvès Jean, the judge in charge of prosecutions against former President Duvalier.
Reynold Georges, the lawyer has dismissed as a "waste" this house arrest, criticizing the validity of the court order against his client, after finding that it was delivered in a hospital instead of the house of the Former President.
Reynold Georges is surprised at the peace enjoyed by an another former President, Jean-Bertrand Aristide since his return and noted that, contrary to the latter, his client is being "persecuted".
He announced that he was going to appeal quickly, the decision of the judge Carvès Jean, to remove this house arrest. He noted that so far, former President Duvalier had never known any restrictions on his movements . "There is no law for it" and "this practice is illegal" he asserts.
According to him, the Government Commissioner of Port-au-Prince, is breaking the law just to please President René Préval and the Minister of Justice Paul Denis.
Concerning the health condition of "Baby Doc", Enzo Alcindor, a friend of the Duvalier family, who was in the hospital, said that the physicians are conducting additional tests but "It's not a cerebrovascular accident (CVA). It is not a heart attack. Thank God".
However, this information was not confirmed by Dr. Gérard Pierre, the doctor of Jean-Claude Duvalier, who declined to comment on the health condition of his patient.
