ARTICLE - EXECUTIVE - WILL NOT COMPLY

MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE GOV'T RESOLVE TO NOT COMPLY WITH SENATE INVESTIGATION
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE - The Council of Ministers met at the National Palace on Monday to resolve to not comply with a request by the senate commission investigating the nationality of members of the government unless ordered by a court.

In a press note, the executive says the meeting was chaired by President Michel Martelly and assisted by Prime Minister Garry Conille.

In response to calls by the senate to convene with members of the government to submit travel documents, the council of ministers presented this resolution:

1. Whereas the detention of some paperwork, including a passport, can not be irrefutable proof of possession of a single nationality;

2. Also bearing in mind that the civil state and the capacity of the people is a question under the common law court;

3. Recalling that the President of the Republic has already submitted all parts found to conform to the law to the Provisional Electoral Council and that, for his part, the Prime Minister has already submitted all parts found to be compliant by committees of the Senate and House of Deputies during the ratification process;

4. Referring to the fact that the Parliamentary Committees have visited the different departments of Public Administration and were able to verify the citizenship of the Members of the Executive branch;

5. Recognizing that the Legislative Branch has the prerogative to investigate any matter considered necessary and it is free to pursue its investigations of the services concerned,

decided that its members will refrain from submitting the documents requested, unless, by court order, if it is otherwise ordered.
