MARIANO FERNANDEZ VERY CONCERNED
(Haiti Libre) -

Chilean, Mariano Fernández Amunátegui, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti, and civil head of the Minustah, has expressed his deep concern following the resignation of Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille, four months after his appointment.

Mr. Fernandez, who salutes the contribution of the Prime Minister to the stabilization process of the country, stresses that "the resignation of Dr. Garry Conille shows, unfortunately, that the rifts have taken over the reconciliation to the detriment of the country, while the Haitian population aspires to truly begin the turn which will lead it towards reconstruction, economic growth and the strengthening of institutions for the rule of law."

Calling on Haitian authorities ... to maintain a harmonious climate, conducive to democratic stabilization of Haiti, and for economic recovery, the Special Representative urges the authorities to designate as soon as possible a Prime Minister, to avoid new delays in the adoption of the priority elements that form the basis of political stability, ie "the adoption by Parliament of the national budget ; developing a legislative agenda consensual ; the publication of the amendments of the Constitution, the organization of local, municipal and senatorial elections of 2012, and to work together to achieve these goals ... in the interest of the Haitian people."
