EXPERT'S IDEAS WOULD BOOST JOINT DR-HAITI TOURISM
(Haiti Libre) -

Santo Domingo- Tourism expert Juan Llado yesterday, proposed a Dominican Republic-Haiti complementary tourism policy via which both countries could receive at least 10 million visitors per year, starting 2020, with a quarter of them visiting both countries and a partially linked hotel offering.

He said to accomplish it several measures must be implemented nationwide; among them a complementary study on policies and products, and to promote and insure joint investments

Quoted by newspaper Hoy, Llado also suggests providing special incentives to bi- national and national tours and for air links with both countries.

As to construction of infrastructure works, he recommends a Northern Corridor, and a high speed train to link the resort region of Punta Cana with Port-au-Prince, as well as joint tourism promotion and cross-border facilitation.

Regionally, Llado said several measures are needed, such as the construction of a Puerto Plata-Monte Cristi highway, the recovery of regional tourist attractions, the construction of observation decks, visitors’ offices, road signs on highways, coordinated offers of excursions, and subsidized flights between Puerto Plata and Cap Haitien.

Llado’s suggestion came during the Economic and Trade Relations Seminar between Haiti and the Dominican Republic, hosted by the Dominican-Haitian Training Center (INTEC/SSID).
