ARTICLE - CONILLE - CANADA'S REACTION

CANADA REGRETS THE RESIGNATION OF A CAPABLE LEADER
(Haiti Libre) -

Following the resignation of the Prime Minister of Haiti, Dr. Garry Conille, John Baird, Minister of Foreign Affairs has indicated that Canada deeply regrets the resignation, of a capable leader, a friend of Canada and a man who inspired a great deal of hope.

"Prime Minister Conille is a capable leader, a friend of Canada and a man who inspired a great deal of hope. The absence of a prime minister causes further instability at a time when the Haitian people face serious hardship in rebuilding their livelihoods and their country.

Canada calls on President Michel Martelly and Haiti's parliamentarians to fulfill their responsibilities to the Haitian people and act expeditiously to install a successor to Prime Minister Conille.

Haitian leaders need to demonstrate a firm and unwavering commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law."
