ARTICLE - BELLE-ANSE - NGO WITHDRAWAL

THE DEPUTY OF BELLE-ANSE WORRIED ABOUT THE WITHDRAWAL OF THE NGO "SAVE THE CHILDREN"

Jean Pierre Rossini, the Deputy of the first constituency of the town of Belle-Anse [Department Southeast] is expressing concern about the possible spread of cholera, after being informed of the withdrawal of the humanitarian organization "Save the Children" from the town of Belle-Anse. This NGO had intervened in the treatment of cholera in the area, since the onset of the epidemic.

The Deputy of the South East indicated that the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) must ensure the management of the CTC (Cholera Treatment Center) implemented by the NGO, after the withdrawal of "Save the Children" scheduled January 31, 2012. "The presence of staff of the MSPP is a necessity before the NGO leaves the town."

The Deputy expressed concern about an outbreak of the cholera epidemic at the approach of the rainy season, while the municipality has only one CTC that works with a small staff. He informed that he had met the Minister of Health, Mrs. Florence Duperval Guillaume, to inform her of the news of this departure. The Minister told him that she had not been informed that the MSPP had to take care of the management of the CTC of Belle-Anse...

At this situation the Deputy, during a press conference Monday, Jan. 30, has sounded the alarm to the authorities in the Government, including the Minister of Health to intervene in this matter. The Deputy from the South East, requests an urgent meeting between the MSPP and the responsibles of Save the children" to extend the mandate of the NGO, in order to assist the population thati is exposed to cholera.
