photos - hydrocephalus - part 2

Jansika and her mother have also been residing at Coram Deo for the last few months. She passed her post-op check and does not need further surgery. She will continue to receive physical therapy to build up strength so that she will eventually can hold her head and sit. She just turned 1-years-old this week!

It was good to see the children again who were there for post-op checks. This young boy is strong and sits well on his mother's lap.

If a baby can receive surgery while their heads are still small they have better outcomes. The last surgeries were at the end of October. This was the first time that surgeries are held 3 months later from the last round! A great step forward for the hydrocephalus program. For the last few years it has been every 6 months and now it is at a 3 month interval.

The mothers deal with a lot of harsh words from people in their community. Many times the mothers tell me that they are told to "throw their baby away".

This young baby's head is growing quickly. The pressure on the brain causes a "sun-down" look on the eyes.
