ARTICLE - U.S. STRENGTHENING BLTS

THE UNITED STATES STRENGTHENING THE CAPACITY OF THE BLTS
(Haiti Libre) -

Friday, June 1, Daniel Foote, Charge d'Affaires of the United States in Haiti and Jean Renel Sanon, the Minister of Justice, have signed at the National Academy of Police [Frères], a partnership agreement and a donation of equipment to build capacity of the Bureau for the Fight against Drug Trafficking (BLTS). This agreement was signed in the presence of Ms. Carole Perez, Deputy Assistant American Secretary of State; Réginald Delva, Secretary of State for Public Security; Mario Andresol, Director General of the Police Nationale d'Haiti (PNH), and representatives of the Minustah.

This donation from the U.S. government, includes 16 vehicles, 50 motorcycles and 500 motorcycle helmets. This partnership with the BLTS, also includes the renovation of the headquarters of BLTS, four classrooms and an auditorium for the training of police officers.

Mario Andrésol, stressed the importance of the international cooperation in the strengthening of the police institution in the fight against traffickers, noting that Haiti can not lead this fight alone. "The delivery of materials reflects the will of the Haitian and U.S. governments, to continue this long cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking [...] These vehicles will improve the capacity of the National Police of Haiti to serve the population, because we'll set up a police force bigger and better trained..."

Carole Perez, hopes that this equipment will facilitate the task of BLTS and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to Haiti, to provide all necessary additional equipment so that the country, could conduct its operations successfully.
