DOMINICAN REPUBLIC SEIZES ONE TONNE OF COCAINE
(Bernama) - By Xinhua

Santo Domingo - Security agents of the Dominican Republic seized one tonne of cocaine in the Caribbean country's southern seas and arrested three drug traffickers over the weekend, the national drug control bureau said on Sunday.

The Bureau said in a statement that the 1,000 packets of drug were found Friday night in a yacht, which was captured in waters off the province of Peravia

The authorities have arrested three Venezuelans and launched an investigation to identify the source of the cocaine, said the statement.

It is the second largest cocaine seizure this year in the country, following a March operation which intercepted 1.5 tons of cocaine in the south.

The Dominican Republic and Haiti share the Hispaniola Island, which is seen as the main passage for cocaine smuggling from South American countries such as Colombia to the United States and Europe.
