INAUGURATION OF THE PLANT PROPAGATION CENTRE IN DOSMOND

The first Plant Propagation Centre, was inaugurated in the town of Dosmond, near Ouanaminthe, as part of the Caribbean Biological Corridor Project, in the presence of Joseph Ronald Toussaint, Environment Minister, the Divisional Delegate of the Northeast, Departmental Director of Agriculture, and representatives of the European Union.
"This is the first phase of the Plant Propagation Centre for plants that we just inaugurated as part of a South-South cooperation for Haiti, Cuba and the Dominican Republic, funded by the EU. The second phase will involve training, which will extend to entrepreneurs; with Haitian and Dominican professors", declared the Minister of Environment.
This Centre, which will produce up to 4.2 million seedlings annually (3 cycles), is funded to the tune of $6 million euros by the European Union (EU), and will also be used as a training center for communities for all of the participating countries in the Caribbean Biological Corridor.
Through the joint efforts of Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, the development of this initiative, shows that the environmental rehabilitation and alternative livelihoods for sustainable development are possible.
