SENATE PRESIDENT BRIEFED ON PLOT TO ASSASSINATE COLLEAGUE
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE - Senate President, Simon Dieuseul Desras (Centre/Lavni), warned the national and international community of a plot to assassinate the Senator of the Artibonite, François Anick Joseph (Struggling People's Organization). Senator Desras says he was briefed on the project from various sources.

According to him, the conspirators met at the Canaan Refuge Camp. Senator Desras launched a firm warning to potential performers and promoters of the proposed attempt on the life of the parliamentarian, making it clear that, far from their advantage, such an act would only aggravate the situation.

Senator Francois Anick Joseph had, on Thursday, said that, upon request of the Senate, an American Airlines manifest had curiously failed to bear the name of President Joseph Michel Martelly on the passenger list of one of its flights from 21 November 2007, while parliamentarians who were aboard the plane that day had clearly noticed.

The Member then hinted that Mr. Martelly held a U.S. passport, asking instead to direct research towards a certain "Michael" Martelly.

Speaking on a popular radio show Saturday, Senator Joseph said that he was aware of the threats. He said, however, that he was determined to continue the work for which he was elected.

Besides Senator Joseph's new revelations on the issue of the alleged U.S. citizenship of President Michel Martelly, parliamentarians say they hold official documents showing clearly that the head of state has a double identity: Michael J. Martelly, and Michael J. Martelly says that these two names were used in creating the company COCO Grove, and in two cases handled by U.S. judicial authorities; especially those in Miami.
