ARTICLE - ELECTIONS ARE A PRIORITY

THE ELECTIONS ARE A PRIORITY FOR THE HEAD OF STATE
(Haiti Libre) -

During a press conference Monday at the National Palace, President Martelly stated that the organization of the forthcoming parliamentary and municipal elections was a priority. "The question of elections remains a priority, and an obligation [...] We are working to go fast forward with the elections, and the electoral calendar. The appropriate CEP will be established", stating that it is the next Government that will have responsibility for these elections. The electoral calendar will be adopted after the ratification of the Prime Minister. It s a message that was intended to be clear, both for parliamentarians, the public and for the international community...

"...on the question of elections, there is a Commission that works to prepare the elections to be held once we have our Prime Minister ratified, so I would avoid making comments, but I can tell you that the question of elections is a priority and an obligation. As you know, very soon there will be a gap in the Senate if we do not advance quickly, so, in this sense, [...] we are doing all the preparations, so that when our Prime Minister will be ratified, we continue on with elections [...] For the moment I assure you, we are going towards elections. This is something that lets us know that democracy is ongoing. In fact, these elections should have been held last November [...] They were delayed because of some crises;[...] but we are working now to go fast forward with the elections, the electoral calendar and the appropriate CEP being established..."
