DOMINICAN, HAITIAN LEADERS SIGN PACTS ON TRADE, SECURITY, TOURISM
(Dominican Today) -

Santo Domingo - Dominican presidents Leonel Fernandez and Haiti president Michel Martelly, today signed seven agreements, including one in which Venezuela funds reconstruction projects in Haiti.

The two leaders signed the agreements on trade, investment, tourism, border transport and security, among others, during Martelly’s official visit to Santo Domingo, where his agenda also included a meeting of the Mixed Dominican-Haitian Bilateral Commission, which in addition to those topics, also discussed common interests on the environment and migratory policy.

Also present in the meeting were the Foreign Relations ministers of Haiti, Laurent Lamothe, and Dominican Republic, Carlos Morales, and senior officials of both Governments.

Morales said Venezuela’s Bolivarian Solidarity Fund will support the Haiti-Dominican protocol by funding various reconstruction projects, after the 2010 quake devastated much of Port-au-Prince and other cities. “The objective is to channel support for Haiti’s reconstruction, with solidarity from Latin America’s brethren, not by competing with anyone, but by mobilizing our humble efforts instead."
