(Haiti Libre) -
The Minustah, as part of its support to capacity building of the justice system and of the promotion of the Rule of Law, will begin the construction of temporary offices for the Directorate of the Penitentiary Administration (DAP), pending the construction of its new headquarters.
The Minustah received a special envelope of several million dollars to provide special assistance to the Government of Haiti in order to help it to ensure the continuity of activities of the State institutions hardest hit by the earthquake, and that, pending longer-term solutions.
Last February, the Mission signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Haiti for the use of these funds. Several priority projects had been identified, including the construction of the interim Parliament and the headquarters of the DAP. These two projects are the largest of this budget.
Among other projects are found other initiatives of support to the DAP, that have already been made; ..... the construction of extensions to the National Penitentiary, and of the administration of the prison of Petion-Ville, as well as the construction of a training area for women inmates at the Prison of Petion-Ville, and donations of material for these instances.

Each Tribunal is housed in two prefabricated buildings of 3 modules, with a courtroom and offices for judges and staff in a total area 155 square meters.
