ARTICLE - NEW OFATMA HOSPITAL - LES CAYES

MARTELLY IN LES CAYES, LAID THE FOUNDATION STONE OF THE OFATMA HOSPITAL

Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic, on Sunday (Dec.18) visited the town of Les Cayes, where he was greeted as he stepped off the helicopter by the delegate of the Southern Department, Gabriel Fortuné, substitute mayors of the city, Ms. Mona Hector Hervé, as well as a delegation of several prominent civil, political and police personalities.

On the road leading to the airport Antoine Simon and to the construction site of the hospital of the National Health Insurance Office and Labour (OFATMA) of Les Cayes, President Martelly was acclaimed by a population particularly sensitive to the fact he had traveled several kilometers on foot to be closer to it.

After this long journey, he proceeded to lay the foundation stone for the OFATMA hospital. In his speech for the occasion, the President stressed the importance of the health sector, whose vitality is one of the priorities of his government.

The President then launched the reconstruction of the national school Charles Lassègue, a reconstruction funded by the FAES. He explained the importance that his Presidency grants to education, which is part of his five-year policy.

Martelly President promised to make every effort to provide as soon as possible, the South and three other departments a university campus.

Moreover, faithful to his promise to strengthen the agricultural sector, the Head of State visited the Institute of Theological, Agricultural and Veterinary Education, in the locality of "Ka Masse", where he had a meeting with farmers of the area to which he explained his vision of the mechanism of the revitalization of agriculture and the place it should occupy in the process of development of the country. He then symbolically handed over a few bags of fertilizer to the farmers present. Another stock of 200 bags was delivered to the Departmental Officer who will undertake their distribution.

Immediately after, President Martelly visited a road newly started linking the Rte. National #1 to the downtown of Les Cayes through "Ka Masse".

The President then went to the hotel Le Manguier where he has, during a moving ceremony, rewarded the excellence by honoring the winners of the official state examination of the academic year 2010-2011 and a hundred other students among the best of different schools. He reiterated his willingness to work to make education accessible to all through his program of free education and improve the education system.

He also met representatives of various grassroots organizations that have expressed their desires. The President, after having promised them to consider their demands, insisted on the principles of nonviolence and respect for state property and those of the citizen, prerequisites for a genuine dialogue.

In the evening, as he had promised, the Head of State celebrated with the people of the city of Les Cayes. Thousands of citizens received gifts from the President. Among the lucky ones, 25 received a bike, the winner a double cabin pick-up. The President of the Republic took the opportunity to renew his pledge to work to improve the living conditions of the Haitian people. He concluded by wishing all best wishes for the holiday season.
