VIDEO - TEAR GAS BREAKS UP PROTEST

It has been an action-filled week. Today Jn. Eddy joined Amos and I at the protest march organized by Charles Baker and Henry Ceant. We started at Place St. Pierre in Petionville and then walked with the crowd down main Delmas to the CEP (electoral office). The crowd did a right-turn by the barricades at the CEP and headed down a side street surprising the police waiting behind the barricades. Some of the people in the march started throwing rocks at the police but people in the crowd were yelling back at them "Don't throw rocks!" They wanted it to be a peaceful march. The police did not shoot or fire tear gas then. Because we had left Kimosabee back in Petionville we took a tap-tap back up to Petionville and then drove downtown to the palace to await the protest group. We waited about 20 minutes before the group arrived. They were slowed down at the Airport Rd/Delmas intersection by people throwing rocks. When they got near the palace the road was barricaded by the riot police. Some of the people at the front of the crowd tried to knock down the barricade so that they could protest in front of the palace. The riot police responded by shooting a few canisters of tear gas. We were in the right position and avoided the gas. Someone uploaded the video of the end of the protest and you can click on the link if you want to watch it. You can see some of the journalists shooting film and scurrying away. We ran in the opposite direction from the journalists shown in the video to get away from the tear gas cloud.

We took lots of pictures this week of the events that have been taking place here in Haiti. It is good to be able to watch and report on the events that happen here in Haiti. It is good for Amos and Jn. Eddy to know about their country and how it is run. Pray for the elections here in Haiti.

The next week will most likely be an active week as well. It has been so busy and so much has been happening. I have lots of pictures but one day have to write out what has all been happening. I'll keep posting photos every couple of days until I get caught up. Pray for Haiti and for the Haitian people. The country can not rebuild without a stable environment here in Haiti.
