MAP OF HAITI

Click on the map to enlarge it. There are cases of cholera identified on the island of La Gonave, the Lafiteau region which is the red mark area and also in Croix-des-Bouquets and Martissant. That means that Port-au-Prince is encircled with a few cases. It will be interesting to see how the cholera progresses. The real danger will be for those living in the camps. It is almost impossible for them to live in a hygienic environment in the middle of the rainy season. We have handed out cholera prevention information sheets to the students in our school program here at Coram Deo and will talk with the parents during a meeting Sunday afternoon. We are letting pastors know about the criticalness of the situation. In studies that have been done, education and prevention are the keys. In societies where education/prevention is not in place the death rate from Cholera is 50% and higher. With education and prevention and a quick reaction time the death rate drops to only 1%. Cholera is easily treatable. It is the rapid dehydration that can result in a quick death. Please continue to keep Haiti in prayer during this difficult time.
