(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE - Venezuela will construct 5,000 homes in Haiti and join in with Cuba to build a $70,000 hospital announced Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe before the Parliament on Tuesday.

Lamothe said 2,500 homes will be constructed in Port-au-Prince and another 280 homes in each of the 9 other departments to house some of the 400,000 persons still living in tent cities since the earthquake of January 12, 2010.

The hospital, which was part of a tripartite agreement signed in May will cost $78,000 to Venezuela and Cuba.

"Agreements, also in participation with Argentina are expected to implement projects for agricultural development in the Caribbean nation, located on the island of Hispanola," said a press release received by South American news agency TeleSur.

"The four countries agreed to create a joint venture to manage project funds of the Venezuelan Petrocaribe in Haiti, building shelters, donating infrastructure for education and the delivery of some 300 scholarships to poor youth," adds the note.
