ARTICLE - THURSDAYS OF PUBLIC GOVERNANCE

LAUNCH OF THURSDAYS OF PUBLIC GOVERNANCE
(Haiti Libre) -

The Thursdays of Public Governance were launched this week in Port-au-Prince, at the initiative of the Centre of  Canada-Haiti Cooperation, as part of the Strengthening Public Management Support Project (PARGEP). These Thursday, will address issues of public  and national interest with Haitian and Canadian experts in the field of public service.

Land use planning, governance and reconstruction issues, was the theme of this first day. The debate was opened by Professor Jean Mercier Prophète, engineer and architect.

Magalie Cadet Rodrigue, PARGEP Coordinator in Haiti, explained "[...] In the open forums people often run out of ideas. They focus all the time on the political issue... on 'zins'. We want to bring the debate to another level, so that when someone hears the news, he finds elements that make him think and ask questions; [...] and also for the State, to take into consideration the things that are essential for the management of the country. For example today, we talked about planning. There are many people who do not know what it means, who do not know that it is something essential when leading a country, and I guarantee you that among those who direct us, they are not even aware of the necessity to put the country on the carpet and say: what we will do? What kind of development will we decide? They do not do that, they leave the country to grow in an anarchic way [...]"

These Thursdays, I want to be forums; to make known not only the good practices in public administration but also, a meeting place for a debate in public governance.
