GRADUATION OF 20 NEW MAGISTRATES

Friday, May 25, President Michel Martelly, participated in the graduation ceremony of 20 new Magistrates from the School of Magistrates (EMA) of the fourth promotion [in 25 years...] This ceremony was attended by members of the ministerial cabinet, the judiciary, and representatives of partner countries, including France and Canada who participated in the training of these recipients.

"It is our responsibility to transform this nation, to put in place a system of Justice and Law that honors and makes of the Haitian a value first, as well as truth and fairness. The magistrates that we are today to this legal system, are the builders of our future society. It is to them first and us subsequently, to build a state where justice takes its full dimension, to harmonize and regulate the lives of members of the same nation," declared the Head of State.

President Martelly urged the recipients to commit to dispense justice and fairness in the most honorable manner. He calls for a new concern for honesty and responsible behavior of the latter: "The rule of law that we promised to put in place, will not take life without this imperative [...] law professionals, have an obligation to demonstrate also selflessness, impartiality, professionalism, and objectivity, when they will do justice to the people of Haiti, which so needs fair justice; true, blind and above reproach."

Judge Kesner Michel Thermesi, Acting Director General of EMA, invited the new magistrates to transform despair into hope, and uncertainty into certainty. "Be the new lights of Haitian Justice!," he said, arguing in favor of the increase of the proportion of women (the percentage should increase from 25 to 45%) within the Judiciary. Judge Thermesi has, moreover, warmly congratulated the President of the Republic, for his determination and constant effort to make a movement in the judiciary by appointing judges to the Court of Cassation.

For his part, the Ambassador of France in Haiti, Mr. Didier Lebret, welcomed the fact that justice reform is at the heart of the program of President Martelly, and reiterated his country's commitment to continue to support the Haitian people.

Me Jean Renel Sanon, the Minister of Justice, for his part, took care to emphasize the manifested intention of the Martelly-Lamothe fovernment in its entirety, to create a democratic society having for its standing, Law and Justice. "Truth and fairness" are the core values​​, according to the Minister, who shows his determination to tackle justice issues quickly, recalling the President's political will to end the problems of which the prisons are faced with across the country.

"I appeal to you all, and especially to the new magistrates, so that together tirelessly, we are building this new legal system that will honor our country, restore the confidence of our people, and give every Haitian the certainty, that this country is now moving forward in accordance with Law and Justice," concluded the Head of State.
