FIRST REACTIONS TO THE DECREES SIGNED BY PRESIDENT MARTELLY

Following the signing Tuesday by President Michel Martelly, and the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe of 5 decrees, including that repealing the decree of September 2, 2010 [Preval Government] declaring as a public utility the downtown of Port-au-Prince, the first reactions seem favorable...
Georges Sassine, the Executive Director of the Tripartite Commission for the Implementation of the Hope law, has welcomed the government's decision, estimating that the private sector will generate jobs very quickly in the construction sector.
Hervé Denis, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CCIH) is also satisfied with this decision, arguing that the public authorities should initiate the first works, and hopes that the banking sector and the Government agree to provide businesses, an access to credit with reduced rates.
For his part, Deputy Guy Gérard Georges, asked the government to develop an effective plan of sanitation as part of the reconstruction of downtown Port-au-Prince, and to ensure that future buildings are part of an overall plan, and meet the standards (standards which are not yet available].
