HAITIAN DECLARED DEAD WAKES UP IN FUNERAL
(Prensa Latina) -

Port au Prince - The mourners of a man declared dead in Haiti passed from weeping disconsolately to crying in terror, when he awoke in the middle of his funeral in a Baptist church in this capital.

Jean Wilbert Elma, 53, was in a chapel when some people noticed he was breathing and tried to open his eyes, so that in the midst of a widespread uproar, was taken to a hospital where he died "again."

In Haiti, one of the most widespread beliefs, and most feared, is of zombies or the living dead who return to this world to collect old debts.

After detecting that he was alive, an ambulance took him to the university hospital in Port au Prince, where he arrived with vital signs, but doctors could not revive him, said the medical report.

According to the Government Commissioner Jean Renel Senatus, who is in charge of the case, the man was initially taken alive to the morgue, but funeral parlor employees ignored that fact, to be able to collect the funeral fees.
