ARTICLE - ELECTICITY PROTEST - CURTIS, MARO

ELECTRICAL SITUATION IN CURTIS AND MARO
(Haiti Libre) -

Early Thursday morning, several dozen residents of two localities in Petit Goâve: Curtis and Maro, erected barricades on Rte. National #2, paralyzing traffic a good part of the morning, until the intervention of the National Police, which allowed the resumption of traffic for the numerous immobilized vehicles.

Residents demanded the restoration of electricity.They have been without for many days after an alleged failure of a transformer,... and the electrification of other areas. The protesters shouted hostile remarks against the Director of Electricity of Haiti, whom they accuse of lying to them many times, and asked Deputy Thimoléon to respect his campaign promise, bringing electricity to Curtis and Maro...

The inhabitants of these two localities, threaten to strike again, if their demands are not met, noting that they already have electricity pylons... Other peripheral areas of the city, such as Rue Benoit and Ti Guinnin, also is asking for electricity, and promised to take to the streets soon, if nothing moves.
