ARTICLE - VENEZUELA - PROJECTS - $369 MILLION

LAURENT LAMOTHE SIGNED FOR $369 MILLION OF PROJECTS WITH VENEZUELA

The Haiti-Venezuela Solidarity Summit held on March 2-3 in Port-au-Prince, ended with the signing of an agreement of USD$369 million signed by Laurent Lamothe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Dr Temir Porras, Vice Foreign Minister of Venezuela.

Minutes of the Bilateral Meeting of Solidarity Venezuela-Haiti

The Haitian Government and the Government of Venezuela:

Based on the various Agreements founding the relations between the two countries, including the various agreements of friendship and of cooperation signed between the two governments:

Considering the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and the two peoples for more than two centuries;

Reaffirming their firm commitment to consolidate and strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries;

Reiterating the principles of solidarity and complementarity in the relationship between the two countries and the common desire to deepen the integration and the Latin American and Caribbean union;

Recognizing the need to immediately put the package on Reconstruction and Development;

Considering the difficult situation in which state institutions are working, whose premises have been literally destroyed by the earthquake;

Recognizing the lack of their own resources available to the Haitian Government to undertake the construction and/or development of public buildings and infrastructure works within the framework of the reconstruction of the country;

Convinced of the importance of financial support from the international community to the efforts of the Haitian Government for the return to regular function of the different structures of public administration, reconstruction, or improvement of various public buildings, and renovation of certain infrastructure works;

Have agreed:

1) The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the Government of the Republic of Haiti will continue to work in cooperation projects, particularly in the context of the Petrocaribe agreement, by directing available resources, especially in the areas of Energy, Agriculture, Education, Social Development, Infrastructure, Health, and Tourism.

2) Both parties agree on the need to work together to determine the exact amounts of funding, time periods and modalities of implementation of each project and the mechanisms of evaluation and of appropriate monitoring.

3) Understanding that the two parties may decide to extend this cooperation to other sectors.

4) Venezuela agrees to increase the quota of Haiti under the Petro Caribe agreement from 14,000 barrels to 20,000 barrels per day.
