REACTIONS AROUND THE DESIGNATION OF LAURENT LAMOTHE
(Haiti Libre) -

The designation by President Martelly, of Laurent Lamothe as a possible future Prime Minister, does not leave the political class indifferent. Évans Paul the leader of the Konvasyon Inite Demokratik (KID) ... stated that he remains in uncertainty "...Mr. Lamothe has a reputation as a dynamic man, who succeeded in business, and who has shown a willingness to make things happen in Haiti. This does not mean that Mr. Lamothe will be able to do this work. The second consideration is that Mr. Lamothe enters into the same category of people with no political experience, .... who brings nothing more to President Martelly, and who also has no political culture. The positions of President and Prime Minister are essentially political, which requires know-how to manage conflicts of interest, contradictions and other situations ... The third consideration is a legal consideration. Has Mr. Lamothe met all the constitutional requirements to be Prime Minister? First, there is an investigation of his nationality, but especially, has he resided in the country for 5 years? Therefore, on all these considerations, I am still uncertain..."

For Sauveur Pierre Étienne, the Coordinator General of the Organization of People in Struggle (OPL); if INITE approves this choice, there is no problem... " ... at the level of the OPL we do not pretend to say who should be Prime Minister. It is the Parliament that will determine who is able or not, to become Prime Minister. If the President has made that choice in consultation with the Presidents of both houses, [...] which are both under the INITE banner, from that moment, there is no problem at all..."

According to the spokesperson responsible for communications of Respons Peyizan, which unconditionally supports the choice of the Prime Minister-designate, it is necessary that the Parliamentarians pull themselves together, to face the demands they make. "Laurent Lamothe is a choice that we support, that Respons Peyizan supports, because it is the President of the Republic who has made the choice. According to the law [...] we can not be against this choice, because we already know everything Laurent Lamothe has done for the country [...] We urge the government to not make obstacles for the Haitian people. The country can not be blocked for reasons of nationality, [...] The country must continue to operate [...] We call on Parliamentarians to pull themselves together. The demands they make do not block the President, they block the people [...] I ask them to come together, [...] to ratify the choice of prime minister, without making an obstacle for the population..."
