ARTICLE - 500 TRAFFIC OFFICERS IN HAITI

500 TRAFFIC OFFICERS FOR THE WHOLE COUNTRY!
(Haiti Libre) -

Will Dimanche, the Director of circulation of vehicles and of the traffic police, has 500 agents for the whole territory and less than 100 motorcycles to try to enforce traffic, apart from cars and trucks to the more than 500,000 motorcycles in Haiti! Will Dimanche is demanding a more effective, displacement of means and weapons, to be able to meet the challenge.

"[...] It is a work of will that we do in the traffic department. There are over 500,000 motorcycles ... Do you know how many motorcycles I have, in the traffic department? I did not even have 100! [...] You know that traveling by motorcycle is faster than by car for example [...]

Today, anyone can sell motorcycles [...] Motorcycles are sold in the same way you buy rice. This is not normal. We need a regulation to say that such a dealer may sell motorcycles [...] This week I want to say that I no longer want that a person who rides on a motorcycle has his shirt or his polo shirt outside. It is required that his shirt or his polo shirt be inside of his pants [in order to detect more easily the bandits that hide a gun under their shirt]. Furthermore, you do not have the right to have more than one passenger on a motorcycle, in order to have better control over individuals who make bad acts in the street. I have given all these instructions to all my police officers [...] If the shirt of the person is not in his pants, or if the number of passengers is not met, they will take action against these people [...]

We need a more effective, more displacement of means and weapons to enforce traffic rules. If we have these three elements, you'll see what results we will give to this country. [...]"
