THE WORLD BANK CONTINUES ITS INVOLVEMENT IN EDUCATION
(Haiti Libre) -

This week the new Vice-President of the World Bank, Hasan Tuluy, in Haiti for a 3-day visit, went to a primary school, Milome Brillère located at Delmas 33; a school that is exempt from tuition fees under the Education for All project funded by the World Bank (WB)

On this occasion, Mr. Tuluy talked about the free education program of the WB that reaches 285,000 children, and 200,000 through school canteens since 2007, through 1,200 schools in the country "...Today we are here because we believe that the future of a society is through the investments we make in our children. As you know we made a first phase with our colleagues IDB [$38 million], the Canadian cooperation... now we come to the second phase. We will draw lessons from the success of this first phase to launch a second program, a relatively significant program [$70 million] where not only us, (the World Bank Group will continue to give our support), but also the enthusiasm of our other development partners who will also be able to contribute to this fund. We hope that through this if I'm not mistaken, 275,000 children will benefit from access to school..."

"...we are not only very pleased and very happy, but we are proud to be able [...] to support the program of free education, and for school canteens, in order to build a strong foundation for the future generations of Haiti..." added the Vice-President of the World Bank.
