HAITIAN DRUG MULE SENTENCED TO 42 MONTHS IN QUEBEC PENITENTIARY
(Montreal Gazette) -
A 38-year-old mother of three who served as a drug mule has been sentenced to 42 months in penitentiary.
Gladys Joseph-Trottier was intercepted at Trudeau Airport in Dorval in July of 2009 returning from her native Haiti with 2.3 kilograms of cocaine hidden in underwear in her luggage.
Trottier, who pleaded guilty, said she was supposed to receive $29,000 to make the delivery by people who approached her at the airport in Haiti, and felt her life was at risk if she didn’t do it.
Quebec Court Judge CĂ©line Lamontagne said the quantity and purity of the drugs were aggravating factors, and there was a need for the sentence to be dissuasive.
