AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT AND THE APN FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE PORT
(Haiti Libre) -
The National Port Authority (APN) and the Haitian Government, reached an agreement on the reconstruction of port facilities of the bay of Port-au-Prince. Jean Evens Charles, the Director General of the APN stated that "...as soon we will have the agreement in our hands, we will work on the finalization of procedures for the call of tenders.
Everything was ready for this project, however, in the tender that we had developed in the past. It was anticipated funding from the IDB... Two years later, we continue to work with makeshift facilities. Emergency facilities are extremely expensive for us, we can not wait [...]
Fortunately, the APN has the capacity to provide resources to rebuild the port. The file is currently at the National Commission on Public Procurement (CNMP) and I expect the notice of compliance of the Commission to launch the tender.
We hope that during this month, the appeal will be launched [...] if there is no major unforeseen difficulties, we will be able to start the reconstruction works on the North Wharf around August-September 2012."
