EVANS PAUL THINKS THAT HAITI WILL GO INTO A CRISIS
(Haiti Libre) -
Following the Government's decision this week to publish the text of the amended Constitution upon ratification of the Prime Minister-designate, Laurent Lamothe, Evans Paul the leader of the Konvasyon Inite Demokratik (KID) is surprised by the many changes of position of President Martelly on the publication of the amended Constitution, and unfortunately fears that the country could go into a crisis...
"...This is news that surprises us a lot... On that same dossier, the President has already made three reactions ... Initially, the President had made a commitment before the Club of Madrid [...] that he will publish the amended Constitution that would have allowed to form the Permanent Electoral Council. On this point the KID nor Alternativ have reserve. Later, the President said that he will not do it because he was told that there was a trap in that,... and this week the Government announced the formation of a Permanent Electoral Council! This means that Mr. Martelly has once again returned on his decision, and that he will perhaps publish the amendment...
Everyone knows that this publication, if he were to do it today, is not consistent with what the Constitution requires... So it seems, that we begin to unfortunately enter into a crisis.
I take this opportunity to launch an appeal to Mr. Martelly, and tell him to reflect on his acts, because it's him who must be the guarantor of the proper functioning of the institutions. For the country's political stability, he should not run in a zigzag pattern, further contributing to confusion in the minds of the people [...]"
