HUMAN RIGHTS DENOUNCE PRESSURES OF POWER OVER POLICE CHIEF
(Defend Haiti) -

PORT-AU-PRINCE - Human rights organizations have condemned the attitude of the Minister of Justice and Public Safety, Pierre Michel Brunache, who reportedly asked the police chief, Mario Andresol, to leave before the end of his term.

Speaking on a radio station in the capital, executive director of the national human rights (RNDDH) Pierre Esperance called anti-democratic and anti-institutional, the behavior of the Justice Minister resigned.

Such a proposal to the Chief of Police by the Justice Minister, says Esperance, shows how the minister disrespects the country's institutions.

On his side, the head of the Haitian National Council of Non-State Actors (CONHANE), Edouard Paultre said that this attitude of the Minister of Justice shows the government's plan to control the national police outside legal norms.

According to Mr. Paultre, the Executive wants to take advantage of the case of the former military to discriminate against the police chief who, he adds, would be out of favor with the new regime.

Recall that the Minister of Justice ordered Mario Andresol to use all appropriate measures against the former soldiers who have been engaged since the beginning of February in training sessions at several camps throughout the country.

The head of the PNH, whose term will expire in August thinks this request of the Minister Brunache could be a trap.
