"ARMY OR DEATH", REMOBILIZED SOLDIERS VOICE DETERMINATION
(Defend Haiti) -
CAP-HAITIEN - The leader of a detachment of remobilized soldiers of the Haitian army in the north defied calls to leave public spaces over the weekend, and has voiced the committment of former soldiers to reinstate the Haitian Armed Forces by saying, "army or death."
In an interview with Vision 2000 radio, Commander Samson Chery downplayed last weeks call by the Minister of Justice, Michel Brunache, who ordered the Chief of Police, Mario Andresol, to use force against men and women training and occupying public spaces, as members of the Armed Forces of Haiti.
Commander Chery says that his men are maintaining cool heads and that they do not want to get into a fight with the police. "The police are our brothers, our sisters, our family and our neighbors...", Chery said. But Chery also sys, if the police are given orders to attack them, they would not stand with their arms crossed.
The soldiers believe they have a right to the bases in Haiti. They continue to hold that the Haitian army is Constitutional and in effect and they believe a soldiers home is his base.
The commander told the reporter from Vision 2000 that there are 6,847 people that are in training programs and 15,000 through all the departments.
