photos - family vacation - part 46

The tour bus hadn't arrived yet and we had some time to spend waiting so I went off exploring. There were some information boards posted in the parking lot area. This one mentioned the arrival of Christopher Columbus on May 5, 1494.
The Tainos were the original natives of Jamaica. Over time slaves replaced the natives who had died.
The major crop for the plantations was sugar cane. Sugar was a big export for the British.
Falmouth was founded in 1769.
The Barrett family owned much of the land of Falmouth. The poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning was a relative of the Barretts of Jamaica.
