OFFICIAL VISIT IN HITI OF CUBAN CHANCELLOR, BRUNO RODRIGUEZ PARILLA

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Laurent Lamothe received this Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the diplomatic lounge of the Toussaint Louverture International Airport, the Foreign Minister of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla who is making an official visit in Haiti from 15 to 16 March 2012. The visit of the Cuban Chancellor is part of the monitoring of commitments between the authorities of both countries, made at meetings held in Havana on November 15-17, 2011 with the Head of State of Haiti, Michel Martelly, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Laurent Lamothe.

During his first day of work in Haiti, the Chancellor of Cuba met with President Martelly and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Laurent Lamothe. Several areas of cooperation have been the subject of talks designed to boost the bilateral cooperation, reported Laurent Lamothe. "We discussed several projects important for the population [...] including literacy, reforestation, health and education." Chancellor Lamothe stated that President Martelly had asked Cuba to explore the possibility of establishing a literacy program for five million Haitians, to eliminate illiteracy in the country. Regarding health, Laurent Lamothe, announced the construction of three community hospitals. The Chancellor also said he had asked Cuba to grant more scholarships to Haitian students. "We had a very positive meeting," concluded the Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

This Friday, Chancellor Lamothe and his Cuban counterpart will sign a bilateral agreement.
