SEVERAL HUNDRED DEMONSTRATORS INVADE THE STREETS OF JACMEL
(Haiti Libre) -

Several hundred demonstrators, citizens and former military of FAd'H, invaded yesterday Friday, the streets of the city of Jacmel on the initiative of Mouvman pou Apiye Majorite a (MAM), holding placards to protest against the bad work of certain public institutions of the city, including electricity of Jacmel, the services of the City Hall, ONA, the justice and also the insecurity, which has moved into the region in recent days.

Around 10:00 am the procession of demonstrators stopped in front of the Administrative Office of the electricity of Jacmel (EDH), launching words against the functioning of this institution. In a message read in front of the EDH, the former Mayor of the town of Jacmel, Jackson Bellevue, Coordinator of MAM vigorously denounced the rationing of electricity since the installation of the new Director of EDH, the engineer Olivier Marcaisse in December 2011 ,after the death of his predecessor, engineer Richelet Mercury.

Jackson Bellevue qualified a crime against the people of Jacmel. The schedule of the electricity distribution adopted by the new Director extends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, considering that this schedule is a factor contributing to insecurity in the city.

The demonstrators then headed toward the town hall of Jacmel, where they tried to close the doors, saying that city employees have done nothing serious for the good of the city. The rapid response of security forces did not allow the protesters to complete their project.

Throughout the course, the protesters chanted and demanded the arrest of the former Directors of The National Old Age Insurance (ONA), Herno Jeudy and his deputy Hector Noël, for the thirteen million gourdes diverted from within the institution. The crowd denounced the continued silence of the judicial authorities of Jacmel in this case, while some individuals cited in this case, are still circulating freely in the city...

This movement was also an opportunity to protest against the statements made in the local press by Senator Edwin Zenny (Edo), announcing the replacement of the municipal cartel of Ronald Andris and Viergela Francois by that of the former mayor of Jacmel, Hugues Paul, Jean Pierre Jouvenol and Jean Solages. This was an announcement that is a continuation of statements from President Martelly, who announced the dismissal of two mayors of the city, during his visit during the Carnival of Jacmel.
