In the background is the container yard where all the containers that come off the ships are stored. A group of boys used the open space by the wharf to fly their kite.
On the road leading from the wharf we passed a group of guys pushing a wheelbarrow with a dying man curled up inside it. It was a sad sight and a symbol too of how the poor suffer here in Haiti. Pray that access to medical care improves here in Haiti.
When we got home we opened the sacs that Johnny's family had sent. This food came from their garden. The Jeremie area is a fertile area. We ate these foods for New Years.
One of the children's friends is Johnny Calixte. Here he is helping to remove the peas from their pod for our meal.
Pont Rouge is the site where Jean-Jacques Dessaline died. Here is a statue in his name. He is one of the heros of independance that is remembered on January 1st.
