SCHOOL OFFICIALS PROTEST MISMANAGEMENT OF FREE EDUCATION IN HAITI
(Defend Haiti) -
CAP-HAITIEN - The second largest city became the scene of protest against mismanagement of the free and compulsory education program, the assumed priority of President Michel Martelly. A visit by First Lady Sophia Martelly evoked the anger of school administrators and teachers, who after 6 months, are still without resources to accommodate the program.
Protesters locked for a time, the doors of the Northern Department of Education to force officials to remove their rifles that they carried on their shoulders.
As is the case in many parts of the country, heads of educational institutions and school teachers are flustered with increased enrollment, but have not paid some teachers who were added to the faculties since the beginning of the school year. Teachers have not received overtime. Parents have not been asked to pay registration or transportation fees.
Furthermore, among the protesters, there were some who accused the Department Delegate of shenanigans in the management. They say "commissions" that were created on the part of the official are not necessary for the inclusion into the program.
