PARLIAMENT WANTS AN INVESTIGATION ON CONTRACTS WITHOUT TENDER
(Haiti Libre) -
The Commission that Prime Minister, Dr. Garry Conille is preparing to create; in order to make an audit of the contracts signed during the last months of the Préval-Bellerive government has been arousing different reactions in Parliament.
Senator Willy Jean Baptiste remains sceptic before this initiative, which according to him, will not bring much. He recalled that contracts awarded without tender, by the previous Government, were granted under the emergency law passed by the 48th Legislature; a law that gave all power to the authorities to engage the country...
For its part, the Parliament requires that an investigation be carried out without delay, on all contracts without tender, concerning the reconstruction, whether contracts awarded under the Préval-Bellerive government or under the Martelly-Conille government.
Senator Jocelerme Privert, President of the Finance Commission of the Upper House, believes that the parliamentarians approach, should not be regarded as seeking to undermine the Martelly-Conille government, but that it is part of the normal responsibilities of elected officials in their oversight role.
