HAITIAN GOV'T CENSUS AND I.D. CARDS FOR HAITIANS IN D.R.

SANTIAGO, Dominican Republic - Minister for Haitians Living Abroad, Daniel Supplice, held a press conference at the Haitian consulate's office in the city of Santiago, D.R. where he announced in the coming days, a census of Haitians living in the country, and an identification initiative.
According to the ministry, the goal is to guarantee every Haitian his or her rights to access his or her academic levels and working capacity to engage in the process of rebuilding their country.
"We want to give a national identity card to every Haitian in any country where they are,” said Supplice.
The census will be conducted by the Haitian Embassy in the Dominican Republic.
Minister Supplice stated that the Haitian government is eager to inform professionals, students and Haitian workers on the plans of his government with the citizens living abroad. The Minister added that the initiative will also seek to promote the new philosophy of his government on the immigration status of Haitians who are residents in the Dominican Republic.
