"CORRUPTION IS IN FULL SWING," SAYS FORMER MARTELLY ALLY

CAYES - The president's entourage is composed of "corrupt people," said Gabriel Fortune, the resigned representative of President Michel Martelly from the South Department. The former delegate of the Head of State says Martelly is surrounded by people who "take advantage of him to make easy money."

"During his campaign, the President had announced change and to fight against corruption. But until now, it's the same indecency that I see. I can’t accept it," stated the former departmental delegate, who has tendered his resignation to the president for those reasons.

According to the former parliamentarian, "corruption is in full swing."

"Moreover, it is the corruption case," he says, "including contracts signed between Dominican firms and former Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive." These cases were being audited by outgoing-Prime Minister Garry Conille, who was forced to resign.

"No wonder Jean-Max Bellerive’s former chief of staff is now Minister of Planning. This ministry is a slush fund, which only Inite parliamentarians and the president’s entourage have control," said Gabriel Fortune, in an interview with the Haitian newspaper Le Nouvelliste.

The former ally of the executive also criticized the alliances made between the powers on the basis of corruption. The Departmental Delegate does not mince his words either, against parliamentarians, some of whom are very close to the presidency. The rare alliance between the executive and the legislature, denounced Mr. Fortune, is based on corruption. "They get along very well in the market of corruption," said the former MP, saying the country is facing an institutional crisis.

For his big mouth, the former senator is be unloved. He denounced a "conspiracy" which, he said, was hatched against him by relatives of the president and South parliamentarians, among others. "There are alliances that are made between the Ministry of the Interior, close to the president, and South parliamentarians against me. For example, the Interior minister boycotting all the initiatives I have taken", revealed the resigned delegate, calling the president’s entourage "ungrateful".
