DISBANDED SOLDIERS TAKE POSITION AT AGRICULTURE OFFICE IN NORTH
(Defend Haiti) -

CAP-HAITIEN - Several dozen soldiers of the disbanded Haitian army took positions on Monday at a local office of the Department of Agriculture in the Northern city of Cap-Haitien.

"We are here to state that the army is a constitutional institution and have for 18 years claimed for unpaid wages," said a former Corporal of the Police Nationale d'Haiti (PNH) and Commander of the Armed Forces of Haiti (AFdH) Daniel Marcel Moïse.

These former soldiers, who demanded the rehabilitation of disbanded army in 1994 by former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, have received support from the public who came to witness the number at the Local Decision office of the ODN (Organization Development of the North), a sub-office of the Department of Agriculture.

The formerly enlisted are claiming compensation and are training young people who are in search of work as members of this new army.

The Minister of National Defense, Thierry Mayard-Paul, has urged the establishment of a force that is constructed with order and consideration for the population. President Martelly and the Interior Minister have publicly urged the demobilized to be calm and return to their homes.
