CREATION OF A CENTRE FOR ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT
(Haiti Libre) -

Tuesday, during the second day of the General States of Investment (EGI), taking place at the Hotel Karibe, and that will end this Wednesday, Wilson Laleau, the Haitian Minister of Trade and Industry announced the launch of a Centre for Enterprise Development and of Entrepreneurship.

"...we will establish a Centre for Enterprise Development and of Entrepreneurship [...] This will complete a project that will allow us to identify companies in the country. [...] The State says it wants to create growth and jobs, but to create jobs, there must exist production, and investments. To make investments, I need to know what sectors have the highest potential for employment, the best growth potential, and in which activities. For example, everyone knows we need a house for living, food, and clothing; this means that these are sources of employment [...] it is necessary to look into these areas, which ones produce the most jobs etc... in order to define the method of support of the State in these sectors.

But I can not do it today, because nobody knows what companies are in Haiti... Today, companies have several financial statement... the information is not accurate... there is no State institution which has very serious information on businesses in Haiti. There is sparse information, but no information of quality [...] We will launch a major project where we will ask companies, to agree to complete an identification [...] in order to have statistics, so that we know what is happening in every sector..."
