ARTICLE - AMENDED CONSTITUTION

PUBLICATION OF THE AMENDED CONSTITUTION AFTER THE RATIFICATION OF LAURENT LAMOTHE

Following the meeting held Thursday at the National Palace, between representatives of the Haitian Government and Ambassadors accredited in Haiti, in order to reaffirm to the international community the government's desire to organize, as soon as possible, the next legislative and municipal elections, Mariano Fernández Amunátegui, the Special Representative of Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti, and civil chief of the Minustah declared, "I would say that this is positive, that the President has already chosen a candidate for the position of Prime Minister; now it's a question at the Parliament level to approve or not. For us, the main issue is that Haiti must have a government to achieve all the objectives we have, especially on the institutional field.

[...] we had a very good meeting on the question of elections, with all the diplomatic corps and international organizations. I hope that Haiti will have, as soon as possible, a Prime Minister. The message I received from the Government is that after the approval of Prime Minister Lamothe, we will have immediately the publication of constitutional amendments, the timetable for elections, the progress of the Supreme Council of Judicial Power, etc...[...]

...for the Minustah and the international community, it is a major positive point. Today [Thursday] there is a formal declaration from Mr. Lamothe, on the upcoming elections, saying, that as soon as the Parliament has approved the new Prime Minister, it [the Government] will publish the constitutional amendments, and we will have the schedule for the elections..."
