TWO MORE SENATORS WITHDRAW FROM NATIONALITY COMMISSION
(Defend Haiti) -
PORT-AU-PRINCE - After Senators Joseph Lambert (Sud-Est/Inite), Youri Latortue (Artibonite/AAA) and Yvon Buissereth (Sud/Inite) withdrawing last week, Senators Steven Benoit (Ouest/Alternative) and Jean-Baptiste Bien-Aime (Nord-Est/Inite) announced Wednesday their desires to resign from the commission of inquiry into the nationality of members of the government, including the president.
"This is not an emotional decision this time," suggested Senator Steven Benoit, who announced his resignation on March 14. This is the second time the senator has announced his departure from the committee.
As for Senator Bien-Aime, he strongly denounced the behavior of a group of senators who, according to him, are trying to hide the truth about the nationality matter.
The senator from the North-East Department also disagreed on a plan to replace members of the commission, including himself, by senators close to the presidency. On this basis, the parliamentarian has announced his resignation from the special commission of inquiry.
However, the president of the senate, Simon Dieuseul Desras, refused to accept the withdrawal of senators Steven Benoit and Jean Baptiste Bien-Aime, who wanted to retire.
Several members spoke in favor of a reorganization of the commission, so that it can reflect the diversity of parties represented in the Senate.
The announcement of the resignations was made while the chairman of the Senate, Simon Dieuseul Desras, sought other senators to complete the Committee, following the resignation of Senators Joseph Lambert and Youri Latortue, who withdrew last week.
